JOB DESCRIPTION

Major Orange County glass and glazing contractor is seeking, experienced CAD Technicians to develop shop drawings and Fabrication sheets for its Design, Engineering & Fabrication Department. We are looking for someone who is bright, motivated, detail oriented and has a strong work ethic. The ideal candidate is someone who has worked in the commercial window and exterior building products industry or related fields. This position is part of a team responsible for the design, engineering, manufacture and technical support of numerous exterior cladding products.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent will be responsible for providing an advanced level of knowledge of commercial window systems and exterior cladding products, including the development of shop drawings, manufacture, installation and Team Leader support information. Additionally, he/she must have strong communication skills and be able to interact professionally with all levels within the organization, as well as, the ability to conform to the company drafting and fabrication standards as outlined within the department procedures. The successful candidate will have:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCES

  • Minimum of 2 experience in curtain wall and window shop drawing development, or similar, including fabrication and glazing.
  • Knowledge of industry practices, processes, standards and technique to accommodate variety of project conditions.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must have the ability to create material take offs and fabrication drawings from shop drawings
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret architectural plans, structural plans, and specifications
  • Must be proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD drafting software (minimum 5 years AutoCAD drafting experience) and be able to use major functions (e.g. X-Ref’s, blocks, dynamic blocks and sheet set manager)
  • Must have a strong technical knowledge of glass and commercial aluminum window systems such as Kawneer, Arcadia and other aluminum products
  • Experience in navigating and developing 3D models
  • Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as optimizations of materials, material cutlists, glass takeoffs, square footages, arc lengths, and chords
  • Must be familiar with MS office and an above average knowledge in Excel.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College experience in engineering or construction management
  • One or more years of experience using Inventor, Solidworks, Pro/E, Revit or other similar solid modeling software tools
  • Minimum of 4 years in a field that has cross over skills, carpentry, structural engineering, skylights (examples)
  • Experience with the creation of fabrication documents
  • Formal classroom training in the use of Autocad and Inventor
  • BIM experience
